Oracle, Lustre and Open Source Going, Going, Gone

At the Lustre Users Group 2010 Oracle announced that Lustre won’t be "free" beginning with the 2.0 version. What does this mean for Lustre users going forward?

On the plus side, Oracle’s approach validates the Panasas perspective that a quality storage system with integrated hardware and software is worth paying for and disproves the perception that customers can get a robust high-performance file system for "free".

On the negative side, Lustre users deployed on non-Sun hardware have some choices to make.

What should HPC users running Linux clusters do? How much effort and cost does that entail and will you be better or worse off relative to performance and stability after the migration?
