Net Neutrality and the Secret Gardens of Julius Genachowski

Tomorrow we get to hear if the Federal Communications Commission will pass new rules that would prohibit ISPs from blocking or giving favorable treatment to certain Web sites or companies. The response you get to the question on Net Neutrality depends on the source of the response. If you listen to investors in companies like Verizon and Comcast and AT&T, you learn that the people who have been spending money thinking the Internet would provide a competitive edge to their bandwidth service offering want to get paid and paid handsomely. Here is what heard today from Phil Lieberman, CEO, Lieberman Software, Los Angeles

Everyone who owns the pipes wants more money, and everyone who uses them wants to pay less. Some who use the pipes and make money don’t want to pay anything at all. It is very much like the highway system where the government has to get involved to promote commerce and take control over the impulses of greed and unrestrained capitalism.

The pulse from Twitter’s #NetNeutrality and #FCC lists are informative and here are some favorites:

Jess (@DynomiteThings)
You know, even if you support #NetNeutrality, you should be disgusted with and suspicious of the way the FCC is trying to grab power. #tcotM

Tom Fratamico (@ElGuaposGhost)
Without #netneutrality, the web will become like cable – 6 corps control both content+distribution and rates do nothing but rise. Bad times

William Allen (@woodpainter)
The #smartphone is THE #computer that #students bring to #college . Shut in down or slow it for the #Verizon bottom line? #netneutrality

And quizzically …

Paty N (@trojanmom8)
